Busted!

Not even Dr. Dread can escape the fuzz.

I realize that it’s a bit unbelievable that they would put Dr. Dread in a jail cell with a woman, but my rationale is that they would have to put Dr. Dread in a cell with someone at least as vile as he is. I think I found just such a creature. Now, I’m not saying Paris Hilton has urinated on a piece of meat and served it to an angelic insect, but according to The Superficial she’s kind of nuts.

On Tuesday I put out the call for ideas for the upcoming 25th Angel Ants comic spectacular, and so far I’ve gotten some really excellent suggestions.

Jackie, playwright extraordinaire behind “the terrible girls”, suggested doing magazine spreads for each of the characters, to introduce them to any new readers. I’ve wanted to have a cast sheet, probably in the About section, but never in a million years would I have thought of setting it up as magazine spreads. That’s the kind of outside-the-box creative thinking you can expect from “the terrible girls”, playing in New York in August!

Whitney June Robinson, of the comic “Alma Mater” fame, suggested an athletic competition pitting the heroes of Heaven against the agents of Hell. This is just the kind of brilliant story setup I would expect from a talented cartoonist of Whitney’s caliber. I was immediately reminded of my elementary school days when, every summer, we’d have to compete in a school wide field day. That’s the kind of childhood trauma that makes for a very fertile story, and I’ve already got a couple of different strips plotted out to those ends. An excellent idea, but there’s too much juice there for a single comic. I think I’m covered through August thanks to this sports storyline. Thanks, Whitney!

Larry, the devourer of souls and music critic, has suggested basing the 25th comic on a mind-blowing plot twist that will change the very nature of the Angel Ants comic. I’m talking about a Fight Club kind of twist. The actual twist Larry suggested is nothing short of absolute genius, and I love it. So great is it, that I want to save it for an even more significant milestone, like maybe the end of the first year.

Unfortunately, Matt still stands by the 25 panel comic.

Please, please, please send me some alternate ideas for the 25th comic, so I don’t have to do 25 panels. Believe me, neither you nor I want to be subjected to that many Angel Ants.
